Revaluating the role of High Biodiverse Farming and Livestock Systems at EU level in a changing climate post 2022

Seminar hosted by the Sustainable Land Use & Agriculture Interest Group, the European Network of Nature Conservation Agencies.

The purpose of the seminar was to bring together EU and national policy makers to reflect on the value and state of high nature value farming systems, share best practice examples and consider the policy measures and strategies required post 2022 for the decade ahead.

Programme – Online seminar – 2 hours
 1 hour General session – Looking at monitoring and policy framework at EU level – four speakers + panel discussion with questions
 With contributions from Jan-Eric Petersen, EEA; Dr Pierre Bascou, DG Agriculture & Rural Development, DG Environment representative, and Clunie Keenleyside, IEEP 
 Introduction 
 1-Why is HNV farmland/farming important? What are the threats? What is the status of HNV farmland and extensive grassland and how we measure it in Europe? 
 2-How can HNV farmland be best addressed in the future regarding CAP and environmental policy (Biodiversity Strategy). – What are the instruments we are using? Is the funding sufficient?  
 3-What can we learn from different national examples? Any best practice?  Pasture-Fed systems, national meadow targets/strategies, mapping and research.
